I’m a little behind timing-wise, but this post is part of the Heart of the Word scripture study taking part on several blogs for the next month or so. I saw it over at Our Yellow Door, where Rachel is hosting the first link-up!! I am really excited!!!! This came just at a time when I was feeling blue and out of sorts, and when I read her first post on it I knew that more Bible time was what my soul needed. This study (the first of many hopefully!) is walking through the Book of Ephesians, and every Thursday there will be a link up at a different hosts page. This week Rachel is our host and you can join in here. This week’s reading was Ephesians 1-2:13.
Now Ephesians is possibly the most marked up book in my Bible, and that’s saying something because I am pretty much baby new at writing in my Bible. There is just so much here on God’s love and grace and I want to underline and highlight everything! But let’s restrain ourselves a little shall we, and I will try and keep myself to thoughts on just this week’s reading. (No promises…)
This reading brought tears to my eyes and a lightness to my heart. There is just so much awesomeness!!! Chapter 1 verses 3-14 just overflow with reminders of Christ’s love and grace “that he lavished upon us” (1:8, NIV), he lavished upon us. Lavished. It makes me think of Christmas presents and bubble baths all mashed together (in a completely non-soggy way), and it is just incredible to me that Christ would give me anything when I have given Him nothing. But He has and He does. He gives us gifts and grace everyday. And from the moment that we accepted Him, He even marked us as His own (1:13).
Christ took someone who was dead in sin, and through His own death He made me alive (2:1). He washed me clean. Me. ME! And you! And we have nothing to deserve it, rather the opposite, we are deserving of God’s wrath but instead He gives us His mercy and love (2:3-5). How awesome is that?! And it even gets better…
Christ’s blood washed clean the divisions of Gentile and Jew, and anyone can be saved by Him! The arguments of Jew versus Gentile or circumcised or not, or clean or unclean, we are now all the same under Christ!! (2:11-13)
I told you that this Book is awesome!!! (I also should have warned you I like the word awesome…) But these verses just sang to my heart on a day when I was feeling down and was a wonderful pick-me-up, and an incredible reminder of God’s love and grace. He wants us to come to Him, and He is always there for us when we decide to.
Whew. That took a lot out of me, but my heart is still aglow in His love. If you’re feeling inspired, here’s the rest of the plan schedule, please feel free to join in with a post, or just read what others are taking away from His Word:
