The beginning of Lent is sneaking up on us! It starts on February 18th this year.
Last year I gave up frivolous TV watching for Lent, trying (and for the most part succeeding) in reducing my amount of binge TV watching. Instead I chose to focus on being more intentional about what I was watching. In hindsight, I wish that I had made Lent more about God and less about me. Lent is a time of remembrance of Christ in the desert, and also about repenting for our own sins.
To care for this little one growing inside me, I not going to be doing any fasting or really modifying my diet at all, but I wish I could. So instead I am trying to focus on growing my faith a little more. There is always the next Lenten season for fasting.
If you aren’t sure where to start coming up with ideas, Kendra over at Catholic All Year put together a great list last year of ideas of what to give up or add in for the Lenten season. She breaks it down into beginner, intermediate and advance so don’t feel like you have to go all extreme. Baby steps is how we all start walking. 🙂
Here are the things that I want to focus on or accomplish during this Lent:
- Attend Mass every Sunday – This is a must for Catholics, so I figure I really need to get into the practice now.
- No meat on Fridays
- Read the Blessed Is She readings and devotional before I get up/leave the house
- Go to Adoration three times – Read more about Adoration here!
Are you giving up or taking up anything this Lenten season?
