Here we are at the end of the alphabet, my how this month has flown by! It feels like it was just yesterday that I was trying to figure out what to write on the letter ‘E’, and now we’re all done!
For Z let’s take a trip to the Zoo!
I find that zoos can be a little depressing, all those sweet animals kept in boxes, but good zoos can make your visit fun and help you to forget the sad parts. I like going to the zoo once in a while; it is a lot of fun to get to see animals are native to lands far away. I have been to a few zoos in my life, but I think the tie for the best ones go to Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo as well as the National Zoo in Washington D.C. (As a plus, the National Zoo is free! because it is part of the Smithsonian museum.)
The trick is to having a great experience is get there early in the morning, preferably as soon as the zoo opens. Why? Because most people visit the zoo during the warm seasons, spring and summer, and animals (well most of them) do not like the heat. So about 1pm when people finally arrive, it is too hot for the animals to want to be active. I remember once when I was younger we got to the zoo as they were open. Because we were early there were few people there so we didn’t have to fight any crowds to see anything, and we got to see the workers feeding the animals. Then we got see the animals at their most active! We listened to the lions roaring back and forth for a while, I have never heard them do that again!
Whenever we go to the zoo, D and I pretty much visit the same animals every time. We always go to see the red pandas, that one is a guarantee, but we also see the elephants, the otters, and the giant octopus. The red pandas are my favourite! They are so stinkin’ cute!! So are the otters, they’re so rambunctious and happy all the time!
I hate the crowds, but the little adventure of seeing all of the animals makes it worth it. What animals are you favorites to visit at the zoo?
