Last year I attended a silent retreat held by the women’s ministry at church, and it was a wonderful experience. It taught me a lot the beauty and peace of silence, and how to strengthen my relationship with God in a little quiet time.
One of my goals for this year is to learn to be still and at peace in the stillness, and it is something that I definitely need to work on. I have a tendency to always have to be busy and doing something even if it’s just watching TV. (Such as now as I write this post and have Netflix running the background…) But I have found that when I allow myself some quiet time, I feel much more refreshed and at peace.
My quiet time varies in what I do, and none of them are the “correct” way to have quiet time. Sometimes I meditate and focus on relaxing. Sometimes I sit in silent prayer. Sometimes I read the Bible or my book soaking in words. The important part about taking time to be still and to just be; I try and feel what I need in that moment. I find that when I spend my quiet time with God, I feel the most refreshed once I got back to the world.
How do you spend your quiet time?
