… mustard? Let’s not be silly! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist an “Alice in Wonderland” quote.)
Today I made mustard. Like from scratch and mustard seeds, mustard! I made White Wine Coarse Mustard from “Food in Jars”, and used D as my mustard guinea pig. I don’t normally eat mustard, probably because I grew up only really knowing cheap yellow mustard, but it has grown on me in the last year or so. I blame D. Even so, I asked him to help me judge how coarse to grind the seeds, when it had thicken enough et cetera.
I had to search high and low to find a nice pot to cook it in, canning jars months before canning season has started, then to find a rack on which to place the jars as they processed in my stock pot full of boiling water. Never found the former, instead I used our steamer rack thingy. Yay improvisation! But thankfully TJ Maxx is awesome and has really nice cookware for cheap-er, and the Food Lion down the street has jars.
I think I cooked it down a little too much since it made less than it was suppose to, but D and I tried it before we put it into jars and it seemed pretty tasty to us. 🙂
Here are the fruits of my labor
