D and I had a very interesting conversation today. I don’t know how it started, but somewhere in the middle of it we were talking about the differences in how people learn things. For example, I am definitely more of a visual learner, than an auditory one. It’s why I write things down (aka take notes like crazy), or read something myself instead of having someone read it to me. “You know how you’ll be reading me a news story, and I’ll have to read it myself? It’s cuz I process it better if I can read it. Otherwise, I don’t really know what you’re talking about.”
And that’s when the light bulb went on and D said, “Oh! I just thought that you weren’t paying attention to me…” He then apologized for judging me so harshly, but I was more interested in the fact that we had never discussed this before. And that each of us had made assumptions about the other, without meaning (or causing) any harm.
It’s interesting what we think when we don’t know the whole story.
