Over at She Reads Truth we have been studying the Book of Ruth, and though I thought I knew the story before this study, it has opened my eyes to God’s love and actions in our lives.
This week’s episode of She Shares Truth is based on Ruth 1:19-22.
I think Shakespeare once wrote something about roses and names or something like that. Our names are in a sense our identities to the world, how we are publicly identified, but those are not always the names we call ourselves.
How often do I allow my circumstances to define me? Instead of seeing myself through God’s eyes I see only my flaws and the problems. I forget how He sees me. Instead my mind gets full of other names for myself. I’m weak. I’m not perfect. I’m not smart enough. I’m angry. I’m impatient.
I get stuck. It is difficult to see past our circumstances, especially when they are not ideal. We get so focused on the hardship, pain or sadness, and we forget that below it all we have God on our side.
But the names God has given us are above all others. Even when we feel at our lowest, He is always with us. He has named us, and we are His.
I am Blessed.
I am made Redeemed
I am Loved.
And so are you.
A good name is more desirable than great riches – Proverbs 22:1a
Who names you today—your God or your circumstances?
