One thing I feel makes our house a home is having a bouquet of fresh flowers on the table. I love having fresh flowers in the house, they make it sunnier and happier. I have traveled a lot in the past year for work, often having to spend a week or two away from home, but I have found that going out and getting some flowers for my hotel room really can make it feel a little more like home. A bunch of flowers add new color and decoration to the house, and the faint whiff of fragrance that they add can change the mood of a room in an instant.
And I love sending flowers to friends and family for any old reason. It makes me so happy to get flowers, it just brightens my day, and I want to share that with others too! But you don’t have to spend a lot of money to share flowers. Even a glass with a few dandelions in it brings sunshine indoors, and they won’t cost you anything. (You just need to find a lawn that hasn’t been fertilized to death.)
Every once in a while I stop by the local florist on my way home and pick up a “happy hour” bouquet, nothing more than a discounted bunch, but those blooms will last about a week.
Here are some tips:
- trim the ends of the stems about 1/2″
- fill the vase with lukewarm water (it helps the flower absorb the water better)
- pull out the dead stems as they start to go (helps the rest of the bouquet stay alive)
- don’t be afraid to break up a bouquet into smaller bunches
Hope you have a sunny day!
