I have been shampoo free for almost four months now, and I love it. Granted, I have used shampoo twice. Once when I started developing dandruff real bad, and the second time was when I got my hair cut. Getting my hair washed is one of my favorite things, so I gave in and let her use shampoo. (It was worth it.)
But for those of you that read my previous post, I have changed what I use on my hair. I stopped using the thick baking soda concoction. Instead I mix about a tablespoon of baking soda in about 4 cups of water, make sure it all dissolves, and possibly add a bit more. You want it to feel slimy, that means it is basic (as opposed to acidic) enough. I personally started adding a drop or two of tea tree oil to prevent the dandruff from coming back. I put the mixture into a travel plastic toiletry bottle with a squirt top so it’s easier to apply. I squirt it all over my hair and scrub my scalp really well. Then I use the vinegar/water mixture on just the ends of my hair like in my previous post. I only wash my hair with this every other day or so, the other days I just rinse my hair in the water and scrub my scalp a bit with my fingers.
My hair is still feeling great, and soft and thicker than before. I’ll admit that there was a two week period in there where my hair got really greasy, and just wouldn’t go away. That’s when the dandruff hit, but I used some of Dan’s head&shoulders and bingo. Problem solved, and it hasn’t come back.
