I am going to warn you that this post may be a little too much TMI. I’ve recently started researching using reusable menstrual products, and this is a post of what I’ve found. I’m sorry to share in such a public forum, but I’m super excited!! If you’d like to read more, click the button.
To be honest, my search started when I started brainstorming what to put in my Go Bag. I realised that once the zombie apocalypse happens, it is going to be very difficult to buy tampons, so I had better be prepared for a Plan B. And the thought that a good friend is going to be using cloth diapers after her poppyseed is born, and I got to wondering why we would using soft, clean cloth for our babies, but use pesticide filled tampons and pads for ourselves. Doesn’t make sense. But, I had no idea where to start! I knew that there were such things as cloth pads that you could throw in the wash and reuse next month, and such things as menstrual cups… but that’s all I got.
So I turned to my trusty friend Google to help me out. And I found this! A wonderful little article, written by a woman who started using a cup, and realised how much it changed the little things. Like not having to buy pads/tampons every month, or no longer having a stinky bathroom garbage. And to top it off, the comments are so informative and helpful! They gave me several different options to research and look up, which was awesome, but I still felt a little lost.
So I turned to my trusty friend Jess, and asked her about it all. I remembered that once upon a time, she had talked about turning to reuseable, but could remember what specifically. And she emailed me back to say that she has been using The Keeper for a couple of years, and loves it. Hmmm… I asked Dan what he thought about it all, and he said “If it was me, I don’t think I’d like pads very much… the cup sounds much cleaner.” Such a wise man!
I ordered a Keeper Mooncup the next day, and now I am honestly impatient for my period. I also ordered a couple of cloth liner pads to use at the very beginning and end of my cycle, from Party In My Pants. (I mean Come On! How could you NOT buy from a company called that?!) They’re so pretty too, and have had really great reviews. I can’t wait!!!!
I’ll keep you all posted on what I discover, the pros and cons etc. 🙂
